Menangle Rod Run 2008

This is the second year of this run. Last year was great, and this year was looking like it was going to be bigger and better. More cars, and better music. The forecast on the weather was fairly shaky, and I was determined to drive with the top down. The last update before we left was occasional showers. We held off leaving as dark clouds seemed to be hovering over the general area of Menangle. We bit the bullet and headed off. No rain all the way to the mustering area at Camden. Once the cruise started to Menangle, we had a few sprinkles. It wasn't enough to stop, so we kept going. Once there, the skies cleared up to a nice day. Temperature was perfect. There was a great more diversity in cars this year. Apart from the traditional rods, there were many more customs, classics, bikes and general street machines. This added to the pleasure for many, including myself. Of course, having a great rockabilly band there was an added bonus. I will show some pictures and add comments where I feel something needs to be said.

The Willys is a 37 ( I think ) roadster. Built by long time rodder Les Buckley. Not to many of them around.

The next one is a rotary powered Mazda ( I think ). Sounded fairly tough...That's the attraction of this run, I get to see all kinds of cars that I don't normally see.

This Kombi seems at first just be a nice resto with modern wheels, but the radiator behind those slots indicate there's something more to the story. Yeah there is, it's a 308 V8 stuffed in the rear where the original dak dak resided. The exhaust out each side is another give away. I did see the engine with the rear compartment opened, and it looks quite at home. The owner done a really great job overall.
I'm not really a VW fan, but I can accept they are popular, especially this split window trades ute.

I took these pics at the end of the day as everyone was leaving.
Quite a few bikes there as well. The second one could have came straight from American Chopper...real nice.
Plenty of big cruisers there as well.
The band was The Nervous Wreckers. Guitarist/singer Jordan Colley is a remarkable talent. I rate him the best in the business here in Oz. I haven't seen anyone here that can play guitar and sing at the same time as good as him. Riffs, fills and complex chord changes while singing so well is just amazing. The bass and drummer aint no slouches either.
What would an update be without the obligatory pics of the 37. When I came back to it, there was a business card from a professional photographer that wants to do a feature article on it in some magazine. So stay tuned.
