Kurri Kurri Nostalgic Festival 2008
| This was one run we have been trying to get
to for a few years now. The weather forecast was fine all
weekend, so all looked promising. Appears many others had the same idea. The
entry numbers were around the 400 mark by my information, which is double
the year before.. Many more took advantage of the fine weather and being
only a couple of hours from Sydney to make a day trip out of it. We arrived on the Friday to have lunch in Kurri Kurri at a popular burger place. The burger was very forgettable, so that was marked on our list of "not to go there again". We then headed to our accommodation at Cessnock at a caravan park, which is about 15 kms from Kurri Kurri. The park was just OK, but not the worst place we have stayed in. The Friday night was spent at the Weston Workers Club for a good meal. Later we ventured into the auditorium where the DJ was playing dancing tunes. We felt quite at ease knowing the doorman was very active in keeping an eye on the cars in the car park. A good night was had by all as a few of our friends turned up through the night. Saturday was put aside for poker runs, but Marg and me vowed years ago not to go on any more..to save the marriage:-)There were trades stands in the park as well as entertainment. We ventured around and bought some stuff. The girls were in their element with the shops and the boys looking and talking cars. Later a good feed in the local Chinese restaurant topped it off. That night was back at the Weston Workers Club to do some dancing. The doorman actually came up to us while we were parking and told us to park in the director's car spot...Geez, VIPs!!. I could see the 37 right out the window all night. Big thumbs up to the doorman and the club. The band that night was The Atomic Hi Tones. These guys are the hardest working Rockabilly band in Australia for sure. Cliff and the boys sure know how to get the dance floor packed. We done a bit of dancing. Marg wasn't feeling to well so we went back to the park. Sunday was the big day. Show and Shine. The organisation was great by the host club, California Cruisin. No problems parking and the entertainment was well on its way by 9 a.m. This time the band was The Rockin Daddies ( uncanny resemblance to The Atomic Hi Tones ;-)..It appears this is the "Rock and Roll" band to appease more punters. I am amazed at the huge repertoire these guys have. They played late the night before and here they were bright and early in the park the next day. They played nearly all day without repeating one song... I'm impressed!!. There were many more cars to look at by Sunday, so we done a few laps on foot and I took plenty of pics. As usual, I'll leave the ones that don't need explaining and just add comments where needed. |
| I don't know if the owner would like his ride to be referred to as a Rat Rod. The Dodge C cab has been around for a while and is rather local. |

| The two tone A Tudor has been seen a few times. I like it. The next car is kit car called a Eureka Purvis running on a VW platform . Novel way the top pops up. |
| The Holden ute looks fairly neat. A lot of time spent in the engine bay...well done. |

| Even a Dodge RT made an appearance. Hmmm..a Jim Beam pick up. I probably sponsored this :-) |
| The two tone Sunliner was very original, right down to being LHD. I believe it took one of the top 10 trophies. The 57 Chevy sounded tough with huge rubber under it. |

| This gives you some idea of what the streets were like. Reminds me of a mini Wintersun ( but a lot cheaper ;-0) |

| I gotta admit, I was never a big fan of the 37? Willys but this model looks OK. The next pic is a keen guy, actually waxing his pride and joy during the show and shine. |
| Now this is a contrast..the Goggomobile on the left, the Caddy on the right. I think the Goggomobile could have fitted in the Caddy's boot;-) |
| We were parked down one end of a street out of all the traffic. Next pic is a very cool wooden caravan. Probably the best I have seen. |
| Sunbeam Alpine sporting its racing numbers. Even a PT cruiser with a Prophet? pop up in tow. Marg got all sentimental looking at the PT...I think she is fretting:-( |
