Kangaroo Valley 2009

While talking to a couple of rodder  friends about the once held "Kangaroo Valley Rod Run", we decided to see if it was viable to re surge the event. Initially, it was just 3 of us and our partners that were going to have a weekend away to have a recognisance . but then decided to invite some friends along. We kept it quiet and started making plans. The list of friends that we decided on are both into cars and rockabilly music so the numbers were fairly small to start with. We ended up with 9 rods and a couple of other dancers. In total, around 24 people. That was manageable as we supplied a welcome sausage on a bun a the Friday night, breakfast on Saturday morning, a catered dinner on Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday morning. All for the price of $20 per head. We must thank Shannons Insurance for their sponsorship of the Saturday roast beef dinner. I will show pics and tell the story as it goes.

.This is the line up of rods that came along. This was taken on the Saturday morning just after breakfast, before we headed off to Berrima on a run. The weather was fairly hot but tolerable. The Glenmack Tourist Park was perfect for the event. The owners/managers were very obliging and helpfull.

We headed off at around 10a.m  to Berrima. The twisty, windy road up the mountain tested out our driving skills but we made it safely. We converged at the local pub. The girls went site seeing and the boys checked out the pub. This pub is supposedly the oldest licensed pub in Australia. That is about the 5th one claiming that fame;-) In any case, the beer was cold and went down well. By now the temperature was in the high 30s.
Here is some tourist stuff. The Correctional Centre for women is only small but preserved as it was built in the 1800s. It still has a small number of in mates.
The Jail (or Gaol as it is correctly spelt back then) stands as it was built back then.
Some more old buildings and touristy stores.
Looks like an old hitch hiker..poor old bloke, has it all wrong, he'll never get a ride doing it that way;- Next pic is back at the Caravan park for a night of food, music and fun.
Dancing took over after the feed. We even adopted a couple of young people into the group. He was from Denmark and she was from France. Very nice young people with great tattoos. We even taught them some rockabilly moves so they could join in. I think we planted a seed:-)
This is how I made the music. I tapped into the 37s power amp and wired them to my Wharfdale speakers from my home stereo. They sounded great and was plenty loud enough. I put the battery charger onto my battery to help it survive the night.
Sunday after breakfast we headed to Berry for some shopping and coffee or whatever you desired. Later we met up with many rodders from the Romans Hot Rod club at the Geroa Fishermans' Club for lunch.
Some of the Romans' cars....Next pic is dueling cameras....get outa the way you galoot!
This is the view behind guy with the camera.....(onya Chris:0)
Now the final pics taken from the balcony of the unit we had. This was taken just as we were about to leave for home on the Monday morning. Pretty nice view aye?
This was the "Toe In The Water" to see how well received the run would be. Going by all that attended, they all wanted to be invited back next year. Everyone had a ball. The weather was great, probably a bit hot but at least it was fine all weekend. I will get together with my fellow organisers, Tony and Chris and see if we want to do it again next year...bigger and better!...I bet we do;-)
