Bright 2008

This was the last run in our tour. We were last in Bright in 1997 and we were told to expect some changes. We had already travelled around Victoria, completing about 1,700Kms. The 37 has not missed a beat, which I am very pleased with. We had made our way to Castlemaine and accidentally met up with a group of rodders in a motel who were on a club run prior to going to Bright. They invited us to join in and welcomed us with open arms. A big thanks to the Thunderbirds Rod and Custom Club.

After a couple of days in Castlemaine, we headed off to Bright. Arriving at about 12.30 p.m on the Wednesday. Weather was great and we took the opportunity to find our way around and to stock up on essentials. We had rented a house to share with our friends who were expected to arrive the next day or Friday. The house was very modern and comfortable. The 37 got it's own private garage, complete with an automatic rolladoor. The weather stayed great except for the Friday night but we didn't see much of it as we stayed home. We had already done a fair bit of cruising and parking in the main street. It attracted it's fair share of comments and attention, which was very well received by my ego;-). I also met up with many rodders that I already knew and meeting others that I only knew via the internet forums. I was in overload and must have driven past many that I had met earlier.

The Saturday dance was held in a huge marquee in the centre of the sports oval. The host club gave the option to attend both the dinner and dance, or just the dance. We chose the latter, as we really don't like queues. The band was the Atomic Hi Tones. They must really like car events cause they are regulars all over the country at various car shows. Cliff and the boys really put on a terrific show and we bought their latest CD.

The show and shine on the Sunday was enormous! Held in a local sports oval it could hardly contain the 850 cars that were entered. A far cry from the 350 or so back in 1997. The Atomic Hi Tones played again while we tried to soak in the atmosphere. We had a great day, and went back to the house exhausted. Monday morning it was all over. Streets bare as we slowly cruised out of town at 7.30 a.m, heading back home.

Our little adventure was well worth the time and money. It will be a highlight in our lives. Any way, here are some of the pics I took. Again, I try to take pics so you might get a fell for the event .

The second pick is a 39/40? sedan delivery from Tasmania. It has had extensive work and was straight as a die and  real nice. I got to speak to the owner and the builder ( two different guys ) The builder is also building a 37 roadster so took particular interest in mine. A nice guy and by the sounds of it, his 37 sounds 10 times worse than what I had to work with. I gave him a few tips, but I think his abilities far exceed mine anyway. We exchanged numbers and I directed him here.
We got a parking spot in the "Power Parking Area" ;-) Here we are, both my mates 34 roadster and my 37 rubbing fenders with the best of them;-)
I know I took a few pics of the 36 roadster, call it self indulgence, I don't care. It was real nice and was in the top ten. Very worthy and it cruised all day, rain and shine. BB Chev powered as well.
I liked the look of this 34 Chev, even more when I saw the engine. I guess the owner is a bit of a stirrer...well done.
This Willys got a fair bit of attention, and deservedly so. Tough looking, sounding and detailed to the hilt.
Another Willys, this time a sedan. They don't get much tougher than a blown Hemi in a severely tubbed Willys.
Hmmm...potential rodding material I suspect;-)
Channeled 5 windows with bobbed guards are my idea of traditional. Very Australian.
Contrast in what guys like in pickups. Second pic is this wicked 36, bagged with spats. I believe it was in the top ten as well. It sure got some attention.
This Dodge roadster had me taking a double look. Hemi?....Nah...the next best thing;-)
The Chevy pick up looked great on the outside, but check out the donk!
Just to show we were there. I guess there's a rainbow coming off the 37;-). Next to me is my mates 34 roadster. Its an original 80s rod that he restored back to it's glory. Running a 351 Clevo with a toploader.
This had me going for a while. I thought the owner had grafted a modern roof onto a single spinner. In reality, he grafted the entire spinner onto a Toyota grand saloon. It is actually a Toyota wearing old clothes. All the mod cons with the old look.

The Tank Fairlane was set up like it was at a drive in, Complete with speaker, which was actually working. Nice to see someone go to all that trouble to get into the theme.
The second pic of a rare resto rodded Dodge roadster.
A bit of self indulgence here. I had a Mk3 Zephyr in my younger days. Same colour as this one except mine had a white roof. Also mine was not sporting a V8 like this one. If I could have afforded that when I was 19, I would have been king of the hill and terrorised all the Holden boys more than I did with a hot 6 cylinder.
The last few pics is the view we had from our balcony at around 7 a.m on show and shine day. The fog is just in the gully. Yeah, I could adjust to this quite well;-)
